Last Weekend in the U.S.

I have loved the past few days. I'm so glad that I have been able to spend time with friends and family before I leave. I know that I won't be gone for that long. In fact, I'm sure it will all go too fast, but I know that I will miss everyone while I'm gone.

A little about Torino

Torino (see picture above and blog title picture) is the capitol of the Piedmont region of Italy, which is in the northwestern portion of the country (close to the borders of Switzerland and France). In fact, the Swiss Alps border the city, and French architecture and cuisine are prevalent throughout the region. Torino hosted the winter Olympics in 2006 and thus underwent some major renovations. Torino is said to be a growing city of interest (especially after the Olympics) but is generally less touristy than other major Italian cities. Below is a few things that we are especially excited for:

  • Apertif-like "happy hour"... but better. Free food with the purchase of a drink!
  • Chocolate-Torino is the original home of chocolate
  • Trying new treats like bicerin and gelato
  • Museo Egizio-Outside of Cairo, Torino holds the most important Egyptian museum in the world
  • Surrounding vineyards and countrysides
  • Soccer (Football) team: Juventus FC (for Dallan)
  • Everything!
While Torino will be our home for the next few months, we plan to visit the rest of Italy and other countries as well. We could not be more excited for this long awaited trip! More to come!
